UUID Generator

Generate random UUID v4 identifiers for use in applications and databases.

Result

What is this?

The UUID Generator creates random version-4 UUIDs - 128-bit identifiers formatted as 8-4-4-4-12 hexadecimal characters, such as 3f8a2c1e-9b4d-4e7a-8c2f-1d6b9a0e5f3c. Developers use them for database primary keys, API request IDs, file names, distributed-system tracing, and anywhere a unique label must be minted without asking a central server for permission.

Uniqueness comes from scale, not coordination: a v4 UUID contains 122 random bits, so the probability of two generated UUIDs colliding is astronomically small - you would need to generate billions per second for longer than the age of the universe to expect one. That property lets independent systems create identifiers that never need to be reconciled.

Generate between 1 and 50 UUIDs at a time. Format options cover the three common conventions: standard with dashes, no-dash compact form for tighter storage, and uppercase for systems that require it. Version and variant bits are set correctly per the RFC 4122 v4 layout, so the output passes validators.

The generator uses your browser cryptographic random source, and nothing is transmitted - the UUIDs are created and stay on your device until you copy them.

Formula

UUID v4 = 32 hex digits, with version 4 in position 13 and variant bits in position 17
Random source: crypto.getRandomValues (122 random bits per UUID)
