What is this?
The Ideal Weight Calculator estimates a healthy weight range for your height and sex using three long-established formulas: Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi. Rather than pretending one magic number exists, it shows all three and the band they agree on, because ideal weight genuinely depends on frame, muscle, and age.
The formulas share the same skeleton: a base weight at 5 feet (152.4 cm) plus a fixed number of kilograms per inch above it, differing only in the constants - which is why results cluster. For a 170 cm male the tool returns roughly 61 to 66 kg depending on formula; the useful answer is that range, not any single figure.
Interpret the band alongside the BMI Calculator. If your current weight falls inside both the ideal-weight range and the normal BMI band (18.5-24.9), the two independent methods agree and the target is well supported. If they disagree - common for muscular people, whom BMI overestimates as overweight - body composition matters more than either formula. Older adults and very tall or very short frames sit least comfortably in any 1960s-1980s formula, so treat the low end with flexibility.
Use the range as a conversation starter with a clinician, not a verdict. All computation happens locally in your browser.
