What is this?

The Average Calculator computes the mean, median, mode, and range of any list of numbers in one pass, plus the sum and count. Paste test scores, expenses, sensor readings, response times, or sales figures separated by commas or spaces and get the full statistical picture instantly.

The four measures answer different questions, and comparing them is often more revealing than any single number. The mean is the total divided by the count and represents a fair share. The median is the middle value when the data is sorted, and it ignores extreme values - one outsized invoice barely moves it. The mode is the most frequent value, useful for sizes, prices, and anything where the commonest outcome matters. The range (maximum minus minimum) shows spread at a glance.

A quick example: for salaries of 30k, 32k, 34k, 36k and 150k, the mean of about 56k suggests a typical pay far above reality, while the median of 34k describes the middle employee honestly. When mean and median diverge sharply, outliers are present and the median is usually the better summary.

Non-numeric entries are ignored rather than causing errors. For a deeper explanation with worked examples, read the guide article Understanding Mean, Median and Mode linked from the blog. As always, the data you paste never leaves your device.

Formula

Mean = Sum of values / Count
Median = middle value of sorted list (or average of the two middle values)
Mode = most frequent value(s)
Range = Maximum - Minimum
